2021 is coming to an end. Will the vaccine be widely circulated? The standards of medical laboratories are constantly improving.

  Most companies recognise that in some ways the awareness of cleanliness standards will not be quick to disappear.Miles Perovic, COO of Termovent, says:“This was a huge lesson for all of us,and I am confident that this trend will continue.”BeMicron and Micronclean both concur that this upward trend in business was here to stay. But others, such as Wickham Laboratories,are not ready to say either way and will only predict the trend to continue for certain until most of the population is vaccinated. As business has been disrupted six ways to Sunday,this is not an unexpected trait.Many businesses are being extremely cautious, as Geerd Jensen, General Manager of Brecon International, concurs:“We do see and expect a lot of new work ahead, but for the moment the market is,as far as we can judge, adopting a wait-and-see attitude.”

  Another opinion seems to be that the upward trend in the industry would continue,but did not put the onus solely on COVID-19, treating it more as a leg up.

  Battery production was a factor that Connect 2Cleanroom’s CEO,Joe Govier also mentions.“Going forward we will see an increase in central and private investment in battery plants,defence and aerospace, biotech services and pharmaceutical facilities.All these sectors require cleanrooms and services,”he says. Another factor that will increase demand for cleanroom products and services is a trend only increasing as the years go on; cell and gene therapy.Tebay elaborates:“Massive development in cell and gene therapy with some significant growth in 2020 aside from COVID-19 vaccine development and also the release of more plasma donations will require tighter controls.

  As a society we crave perfection,innovation and higher quality from our products year on year and so the trend will be to get ‘cleaner’ and have tighter controls over manufacturing and so cleanrooms and filtration will be at the forefront of that development and support.”

  Jansen adds to this opinion:”We do think our market in installing controlled environments will grow in the coming years with a > 5% figure. Food, life science and specifically pharma in Europe will grow above average, the high tech segment can be more influenced by economic difficulties because it serves a more consumer dependent market.”
